Osphranter rufus
I am one of the largest marsupials in the world and one of Australia's most recognizable animals. I have very powerful hind legs, large feet, a muscular tail, and relatively small front legs. I move mainly by hopping and can cover long distances efficiently. My strong tail helps me balance while jumping and also supports my body when I am standing or moving slowly. Like other marsupials, my young develop inside a pouch after birth.

- I can reach speeds of around 60 kilometers per hour over short distances.
- My baby is called a joey and continues developing inside my mother's pouch after birth.
- I cannot easily walk backwards because of the shape of my large feet and powerful tail.

Habitat & food
Habitat
I live in dry grasslands, open plains, shrublands, semi-deserts, and desert regions across Australia. I prefer open areas with grasses and shrubs for food and places where I can rest in the shade during the hottest parts of the day.
Visitor guidelines
Please stay behind the safety barriers and do not try to touch or feed me. Sudden loud noises, shouting, or banging on the enclosure can frighten me. Never throw food or objects into my habitat. Keep children close and follow zoo staff instructions so everyone can observe me safely and respectfully.
